I have updated the production page, instead of calculating the next 48 hours it just shows you how much time is left until production stops.
I have added the unions feature to give higher players a challenge.
As soon as your company reaches a value of 2.5 million, you will encounter unions which means your employees will get double pay.
From now on when you start playing this game or have reset your account you will start with three options to start with.
- Beginner: gives an up and running company
- Experienced: 250K cash and 10K XP
- Expert: 100K cash and 20K XP
I have fixed the profiles.
The warehouse data was incomplete, they now give the amount of storage units and processing units.

All players now have a rank indicator next to their rank that indicates if the user is doing well or not.
You might have some messages in your log file about bank interests lately in the middle of the day.
Don't worry about it, I'm just testing the new logging system, there isn't really being money deducted from your account.
I've been doing some fixes this weekend.
- No longer possible to use the waste water or trash glitch to get upgrades and then sell it again getting negative cash;
- Fraud prevention by not accounting invested machinery as a cost but rather as an investment;
- Cleaned up the product graphs;
- Financial director and human resources now also apply to warehouses;
- Streamlined the turn processing code;
- Fixed the glitch with the production where the output of an early sector in the loop could be immediately used in a sector further in the loop as input, this made no sense unless there was some kind of time travelling active.
The past week we have been busy maintaining our new system.
With the help of our enthousiastic players we managed to balance it out.
To give everyone a fair chance of becoming the ultimate investor this round

I have added two new sectors and a new product. You can now build wind turbines and start wind farms (wind energy).
The impact of the staff members financial director and human resources has been increased as well.
I have revised the way the warehouse level affects the warehouse size. Now every level your warehouse size will increase 10% from the base size, and not from the current size as it used to be. This will be more clear to use. Also the level will now start at 0 instead of level 1. So for all you players out there, you just gained a free upgrade of 10% ;).
The price and maximum of the upgrade remained the same (2500XP, Level 10). So you can go to 200% warehouse size, which is 1000 CBM per warehouse.
I have increased the gain of the production manager to 10% but made him a bit more expensive.
There are new tax brackets. New players won't be paying any taxes. And the higher players will pay less.

I have improved the rankings and the shoutbox. Rankings now show avatars and shoutbox performance has been tweaked.
The lay out has been optimized for small browsing. You can now scroll left and right when the window is smaller. Also I have introduced smarter links for pages with multiple "tabs" like tutorial page, news page or messages page.
You are now able to edit your old sets. You can change the name and the numbers. To delete a product from the set, just set it to zero. Adding new products to a set is not possible yet.
Businessgame has a new menu!
The hint system has been updated and the hints have also been updated to the current gameplay.
The security system has been improved. All users have been given a new password.
I'll be phasing out staff. In the long term they will evolve to experience points based upgrades.

Apparently the website was down for a few hours due to migration to another server.
"The planned migration of our current datacenter to the new room in the AXS datacenter is taking place this evening. This is a necessary step in order to further optimize and centralize the services for our customers. This migration, to a more stable location, will ensure the uptime of our services on a long-term basis.
A team of assigned engineers begin the migration at 10PM tonight. From this moment on, a part of our network will be brought offline and online again later on tonight, in the new datacenter. Any network locations and systems, acquired by Datahouse, will remain available during this migration, a possible small interruption due to network changes notwithstanding."
From now on all sectors are locked from start and you need to unlock them when you want to build units in it.
Unlocking a sector costs 2,500 XP. To make up for this, the start experience points has been increased to 5,000. For people who already have been playing, 4,000 XP has been given to you.

I found a way to do threading in JavaScript. This opens a lot of possibilities for AJAX implementation to the site. Refreshing the shoutbox every 3 seconds, checking if the online users have changed every 30 seconds and see if you got any new messages each minute... Without the need of refreshing the page!
The fact that JavaScript can't thread made it very hard to implement such things with different timers. If you want to know how I made threading possible just check the source code for "threading.js".
Chat has been replaced with a nifty shoutbox!

We have been playing this round for over 5 weeks now and you have had the time to get familiar with all the new sectors which were introduced at the beginning of this round. So I think it's time for a review and maybe start rebalancing for the next round.

You can now keep track of logons and who is online on the homepage. It has been improved with avatars and such.
Mailing wasn't operational apparently the last two days, this should be back up.
Many things went wrong because I was on an old server and the host tried to migrate it with some new ones or something. Anyway, they fucked up their DNSsing and got a free extra year of webhosting for helping them out ^^.
The problems with the scripts have been solved!
The host had some problems with their DNS addressing, if I hadn't brought it up, they would still be scratching their heads ^^.
Anyway, the game is back playable again.

I've added a list of users who logged in today on the left on the home page. This way you can keep track of user activity, you'll less have the feeling you are all alone on this site :).
I have been working on the feature to change your username. Changing your username can now be done via the settings page. A name change can be done as many times as you want but it costs 5,000 XP!
I also did some little fixes;
- You are now able to change your email address again! It has been brought to my attention this was not possible.
- The market calculator should now account the right percentage when hired a distribution manager. (Again, thank you
Anasky)
- Double minus sign on market is fixed
- Product page now also shows sectors which requires that product as machinery
I've improved the messaging system. It's more safe, faster and less bugged.
The only downside is, I had to delete all messages. Anyway, I'm finally done with my streamlining so I can start developing those new features I had in mind.
I have increased the taxation brackets. This will lower taxes a lot.
The turns should be back up and running. There was a minor bug which caused the production to fail. *Shame*
I'm streamlining the code for the Database Access Object. This also entails database changes. If you encounter any bugs, please notify me ASAP.
I have removed the lobbyist staff member from the game. From now on everyone is able to activate as many sectors as he or she want.
I'm thinking of implementing the feature of wearing out of machines.
In real life machines their life time is

Bonds are now grouped together by type and lasting days.
The initial capital for all players has been increased to 250 000 euro!

The new round has started!
Many new sectors and products have been introduced. All sectors have been rebalanced and made more realistic. Each sector should be exacly as good as any other, only smart upgrades and hiring can improve your production.
Also, taxes have been lowered and bonds have been edited.

I noticed most people want longer rounds. At the moment a round last 6 weeks. How long do you want it to take? 8 weeks (2 months)? 12 weeks (3 months)? or even longer?

I edited the excel sheet you can use to calculate your profits. It now includes a calculation of your warehouse costs. You are still free to edit the the excel sheet if you want to. The file is protected to avoid accidental mess ups but the password is in there if you feel pro enough :).
This file might be of great use to manage your company because it gives a good overview of what your greater costs are which you should be focussing on. No more randomly hiring staff!

A few new sectors have been added to the game: the silica mine and the coal power plant!
This mine will mine for the new product named "Silica". Silica will become an input good of glass and silicon soon.
Probably the product "wood" will be removed from the game later on.

I have added a new sector coal mine and product coals, which will be implemented in other sectors when this round ends. More sectors and products will follow!
There was a bug with firing staff and payment of staff. This should be fixed now.
I fixed the profiles so you can see the company settings again when hiring a spy.
I'll be on vacation the next week so I won't be able to reply to any of your messages or fix any issues on the game.
The poll shows most people want the sector production lines to be more realistic. Which I think sounds logical. This would make the game even more fun.
This would also require me to rebalance the game and probably add and/or remove sectors.

Gears can be traded again on the market. The sectors who require gears or produce them will be back in production too.
I'm busy calculating the compensation for each player.
It was brought to my attention that any sector using the product "Gears" as input aswel as output is not producing.
Furthermore "Gears" can also not be traded on the market.
If you have troubles trading, you should ommit the gears from the list of goods you want to trade.
Anyway, I'm looking into it as soon as I get home and the persons who invested in Gears don't have to worry, I will compensate all players who have lost profits due to this bug. Your amount of losses will be calculated and gifted to you.

I'm busy renaming the sectors now that products and sectors have been separated. For example, a power plant produces energy. No longer the "energy" sector which makes "energy" goods.

From now on you can increase your loan limit by upgrading your bank level.
Each level the limit doubles. You can go up to €400,000.00 as loan limit.
I have returned your money you have invested in warehouse upgrades and dock installments and reset them back to default.
From now on those upgrades will cost XP instead of cash.
I've added Experience Points to the game.
It has no use yet. But I'm going to use it for upgrades.
It seems better to me that you have the ability to unlock features with xp. Starting with a "limited" account when you start playing.
I think this would not only improve the gameplay but also will help new players get started because they will learn the game gradually step by step.

Hey folks, what new feature would you like to see in businessgame?
From now on you are able to improve the technology level of your warehouses by upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the capacity of each warehouse drasticly thus making upgrading a good long term investment.
I went skiing for a week. That's why I haven't replied to any messages or haven't posted any new features.
Anyway, I noticed many players are asking for the variable market again, but I stay with my decision to wait for more active players. The system also needs some new fine tuning before it goes back online.

From now on machines and generators which are installed inside the built units are also counted in the rankings. This will prevent extreme lowering of your rank when investing in new units.
I've found a serious bug. For some reason, when a bond expired, the money was never transferred back to your bank account. I've noticed this bug because I myself had invested a lot in those bonds.
Anyway this bug has been fixed.
Because many players are finaly getting there company up and running the game will not be reset when the first player reaches a million. The round will be extended for a long while.

I have improved the log files for users. More information is kept of the last week and it has been sorted by day.
I am working on a new lay out for Businessgame. At the moment it doesn't look pretty neat but I'm working on it ;).
You are now able to hold bonds. When a bond get issued the issuer is obliged to pay interest (the coupon) and/or to repay the nominal value at a later date, defined by the termed maturity, to the holder. Thus the bond is like a reversed loan.
At the moment, there are three types of bonds available:
- a fixed rate bond, with a fixed interest of 6% and a nominal pay out of 90%
- a perpetual bond, which has no maturity date (goes on forever) with an interest rate of 5%
- a zero-coupon bond, with no interest but a nominal pay out of 125%
Also, I have increased the loan interest to 5% because it wouldn't make any sense if the bank would loan money for a higher interest than it lends
One of our sly investors has expanded his business to a million euro company and therefore has ended this round.
Everyone will be reset and has a new shot of being the top investor of the next round!
Hey there, I have recently graduated so I will have plenty of time to develop on the site for the next weeks. Hold on and expect some changes ;).
From now on, you can see what the production of a sector is, even if you don't have any units in that sector. This way you don't need to reset to often at start to find the sector you like.
I have come up with a new rule. The game will be reset each time the first player hits a million. So it will be a race to get a million first!
The site has been offline today and turns were not processed. Everything should be back in order though. Apologies for the inconvenience.
It took a while but finally I managed to find a workaround to add multiple like buttons to a single page. Businessgame news messages can now be liked on facebook!

The website was down for a while for some changes. I have reformed the preferences system to be better understandable and a more usable interface.
I've increased the turn speed from 30 minutes to 15 minutes per turn.
Saturday the speed of turns will be increased to 15 minutes per turn.

Most people voted YES for speeding up turns in Businessgame so I will soon change the system a bit for faster production.
I have stopped the calculated market price changes for a while since there are not enough active players to keep this system stable.
Only special news events can influence the price for now.
I fixed the script which calculates the changes of the market prices. For some reason they could only rise not lower.
It has been fixed now. Prices will change normally again.
I have improved the manner of calculating the owed taxes.
Previous system was based on estimates, this calculation is based on the real turnovers and costs.
I have done some updates on the system. There were some problems since the reset but everything should be up and running again. By these updates bugs like overflowing warehouses or disappearing goods should be fixed.
I'll be working on adding the bonds to the game soon.

Since I have a calculator which calculates the profit per turn and Return on Investment (ROI) of each sector to speed up tax calculation and for personal use ^^. I am going to implement this calculated knowledge into the advisor feature.
Pretty soon the advisor will be able to tell you more information about each sector, like profit, ROI and the time it takes to pay off the investment (in turns). It already tells you what the best sector is, but not for each sector seperatly.
It would be nice if the advisor could advise you to deactivate a certain sector due to too high losses.
I have fixed some "bugs" at the bank page. When taking out a loan, the loan was accounted as "profit" for the organisation, which is of course ridiculous. So for taking out a loan of 100 000, you had to pay taxes like it was a taxed profit (60 000 euro taxes for 100 000 euro loan).
Paying back your loan was on the other hand considered a loss. So it was subtracted from your taxed profits, lowering your taxes.
Anyway, loan does not affect your finance profits anymore. It was just crazy since a high loan would immediately be taxed at a high rate. Interests however are still considered a loss and substracted from your taxed profits.
This is how it works in real life too ^^.
Another bugfix I did was the pre calculator on the market page which only told you how much you would make if you would sell, now it show all information again.
Bank loans are much cheaper from now on. You don't have to kill that killing 20% extra interest no more.
From now on a loan only costs 3% interest a day (0.5% if you hire an accountant).
Also, I lowered the taxes for market exchange. From 5% to 2% to boost lower players.
I have changed the name of "Particles" to "Parts". I knew it for a long while it was wrong but have always been too lazy to fix it ^^. Better would have been "Machine parts", but the script might give some bugs if product names contains spaces :(.
Anyway, while I was at it, I also changed the name of "Dump" to "Trash". Which is a more suitable name for the product, but not for the sector, but I think it's much clearer this way.
The site had to be unavailable for three minutes or something, sorry for the inconvenience if it happened while you were online.
The government has taken action on the market and stabilised all prices to improve the local economy.
I have removed the advisor from the staff list to avoid any more confusion about being unable to fire the advisor.
This also gives all users an extra office spot for a new staff member!

I have done some bug fixes to the edit profile page. Appearantly the javascript wasn't working because of a stupid mistake of me. And the date of birth gave an error when left empty.

I have added some AJAX to the edit profile page which keeps you informed when editing your profile information. This way you won't have to do too many do-overs.
I have redesigned the mails of businessgame a bit and added an "unsubscribe" option to it so people can unsubscribe from the newsletters without needing to delete their account.

I am busy creating a new messaging system for the new site. It will be a great improvement upon the last.
Related messages were already shown together when being read but were still showing as seperate messages in the inbox and outbox. The next messaging system will have beter grouping, a more logical interface and an easier to read lay out.
I have started to upload the newer version to the server. During the next days I will integrate the site with the newer system.

Hi all, I was off to New York City for the week. At the moment I am waiting for my plane at Heathrow airport.
Now that I am back, I'll try to upload the new site when it is completely tested.
I promise that I'll lower the taxes next term ^^. I introduced them a while back when some people were gaining money to easy.
But now I noticed that not that many people are making profits, taxes will be lowered significantly.
Would it be a good idea to boost players who are online in businessgame chat?
Like when you are online on the site when the turn occurs, you get 10% increased production or something. This way, keeping your computer on and being in chat improves your production speed.
Should it be added to the game or considered lame? :)
I am working on the new version and already testing some features of it.
If you see me popping up on first rank. Don't worry. I cheated :p. And I'll reset my account as soon as everything seems to work. So my rank actually doesn't count :).
Units and storage page seems to work now. Market will be though. I'll try to fix bank today too.
Edit: I also made the accountant way cheaper (from 1000 to 250) to make him more interesting to hire.
I fixed some bugs to this version of the game.
In some rare situations you got an error because of a coincidental combination of settings for some users. Like sending a PM to a user who has activated the mail notification when you haven't and such things like that.
It is getting kinda confusing, I am currently working on 3 versions at the same time ^^. The current one, the new one, and the even newer one :). But in order to provide you the best service as possible, I still work on all of them.
I finished the units page of the new version today :).
I finaly started coding again after all those busy busy months.
I only have school on Monday and 2 hours of school on Thursday, so I have plenty of time now.

Hi all, it has been a while since I posted something.
I now started a new trimester at school. Since I only have one day and a half school each week, I'll have a lot of time to refactor the framework and start publishing the new game.
I have already started working on the version after this version too :). But I'll first complete the one I was working on earlier because I can't keep you waiting :P.
Anyway. My plan is to just convert the gameplay to the new framework and then add new features to the game. Any suggestions of additions to the game are welcome.
Tomorrow I have exams for school (again, starts getting annoying).
Anyway, after those next two weeks I will definetely spend a LOT of time on the development of this game.
It is possible that in the meanwhile I will already improve the lay out of the site a bit to make it look more appealing.
Another thing I have been thinking about of this gameplay is that this game shouldn't be an absolutely positive game but it does NEED to be more positive since too many people are making loss. This game just needs to be easier, but not to easy, bad players still need to be "punished" with losses, but more players need to make money.
I am thinking of a system how. Just raising prices of goods won't change a thing since all sectors are interconnected.

Well I don't have much time at the moment.
I have a giant school project I am working on, and some other smaller school projects as well, so I don't have a lot of free time.
I recently broke up with my girlfriend btw, so when I have some free time, I don't feel much like coding.
Next month I'll have a lot of free time, the game will be developed then.
I am making a detailed design of the current gameplay. I'll use this to design the new gameplay which will be, of course, based on this one but will be different.
So the development of the next version has reached the next phase, the system is ready, now I only have to implemen the new gameplay that I am designing (on paper atm) right now.
I did some bugfixes to the current version.
Some bugs did popup the last weeks, which I said I would fix in the next version.
And I did, but since I can't let you wait for a next version and in the meanwhile let you use a bugged version, I have done those bugfixes in this version as well.
I did the following fixes:
- birthdays are formatted right this time, ages are calculated correctly. (I had to clear everyones birthday, so you have to fill it in again)
- avatars are editable again (yes hoorray! :))
- homepage is a bit cleaner (announcements aren't full displayed, only teasers are shown)
- improved help section
- improved help search function
I know I promised the new system would be out soon. But it still has some issues and I actually came up with a better concept. I had a lot of new insights this year.
At first I just decided to continue the work and leave the new system for the version after the next version. But now I figured, the new version doesn't really change anything for YOU, the players.
The game would have been exacly the same, only with a more fancy layout. I wanted to finish the system first, format the old gameplay to this system, and then adapt the game to the new game concept I had in mind. Sounds like a lot of work? It IS a lot of work!
Anyway, I now started with the new system all over, and also designed a model for the NEW gameplay, that's right, this time I am also working on the real gameplay.
But don't worry, it won't take longer than continuing with the version I was working on, since I don't have to reformat the whole site and stuff like that.
I am also going to do some bugfixes to the current version, I was wrong about postponing it to the next version. I already fixed them in the new system so it is just a matter of copy pasting.
I am almost finished with my exams.
Next thursday is my last one. Where I have to show different projects I had to make.
One of them including this game I just posted on the
nickmania site for commentaries.
Anyway, when that's finaly over with, I'll finish up this game. I got more project to do than I can actually handle :).
I want to finish businessgame, create a movie manager program (which I have programmed a lot of already), need to finish my other site with tutorials on webdesign, help beather with his site, create a site for a company, create a flyer and a site for some school prom party, create a game on facebook and so frikkin' on :(.
I know it's a lot but I'll do my best :). Businessgame is definetely one of the top priorities ;).

I have to design and program a game with ActionScript 3 for school, so because this quite time consuming, I won't be working on the new businesgame the next week.
Sorry for misabusing your patience (if you had any at all :P).
I have cleaned up the system some more, it was a though job but I finaly did a great seperation of concerns and have created a very flexible engine which allows me to implement new features fast and easily.
I had some issues with altering code in the past because it gets messy after a while, that's why me new motto of programming is: [i]Write your code as if the next guy to maintain it is a homocidal maniac who knows where you live.[/i] :P and it is working :).
Since my development will go rapid now, you can expect the new system up and running in a few days.
Although I am working on the new system, I have also done some changes to the current site. Small features like quick reply, calculator on market page and some other minor fixes have been performed.

Along with the system update (which should bring higher speed and better stability) there is also a new header with new menu. So there are some small improvements to the lay out.

I am improving the search function of the help section since I am expecting this section to grow exponentially next version.
I found some issues that are hard to solve :p.
For example, I find out that singular of plural of a search query gives a different set of results.
Like "strategy" or "strategies" tends to have a total different result. Mostly, if a user gives the singular form, he will probably also find the plural form as well, but this is not always true.
Programming a search engine is harder than I thought!

I have nearly finished the framework, only debugging it a bit here and there. Now I can really start with recreating the pages for the new system, which won't take long.

My laptop is being repaired at the moment (keep having bad luck with the damn thing).
Anyway, the coding of businessgame.be is being delayed due to this.
I am configuring my old computer for use and will be able to continue coding the new version of businessgame soon.
I have fixed the possibility to take trash when having an negative amount of cash. This wasn't possible before but has been fixed because this made it a hard time for people who invested in dump units.
I have made a list of features I might going to implement in the next version of this game I am working on. I am going to think this through and design a plan of how the system will work precisly.
Most of these ideas have been discussed earlier in these forums and suggested by players themselves. With the new version coming, I finaly have a chance of rethinking the system in a way that allows me to implement these features.

Hi all,
It has been a while since my last announcement, this is because I have been busy with my examinations and was on a road trip for two weeks.
But now I am back and working on the site.
I am planning a final round for this version, which will start this Saturday.
All players will be reset and the last round will start.
In the meanwhile, I am working on a more stable and more user friendly version with probably an increased gameplay and more features.
I am going to schetch the next version during this week, to visualize my plans :).

I have school examinations this week and the following week. So I won't be online a lot. Got to study much because I skipped to many lessons (my lazy bad :p).
Luckely I got an Easter Holiday after those two weeks. In those two weeks I will redesign the site in a more practical way and maybe even add new features already. (If I have time to do it.)
The new interface should make it easier to adapt, add and delete options to the game so it will defenitely be an improvement.
I got my laptop back and it has been fixed.
They didn't notice anything about the spilled drink :p, so I still had my warranty! Nice!
The reason why I am not online that much is because I broke my computer.
I was stupid enough to spill a drink over it in class.
My computer is being fixed now (I hope they won't notice it over there about the drink so I still have my warranty :)).
Today I have added the possibility to set your username into a specific colour in chat.
This will be a slight advantage in the communication program.
I noticed chat was getting popular these days so I made some changes around there :).
I have made some improvements to the chat. It is now with sound and it should work without blinking.

I am busy with coding a new system which will be much more competing to play with.
I am creating a thing like "levels" which you can reach with your company. This level is your company type. By getting a higher type you can unlock more features in the game.

From now on your loan will be substracted from you "in hand value" in the rankings. This will make the rankings more fair since there won't be any rankings boost by taking out a loan.
From now on there won't be need for refreshes when managing your staff. It is total ajax now.

From now on the government will also be a "player" on the market.
If he notices price changes going out of control he will buy or sell goods of that sector to stabilize the market prices.
The government doesn't has an unlimited amount of money so sometimes he won't be able to make the required actions. The government only owns the money that has been earned by the taxes.
For now that treasury is extremely big, but I'll think about more expenses for the government.
The next step I am going to do is make a better newspaper system, which will be very hard, any suggestions for a newspaper system are welcome.

I had to disable some options like mailing and logfiles because the host was free. (No text files or sending mails :(). Anyway I think it is quite funny to see what a HUGE improvement the game has made.
For the Die Hards: You're account is still there :p.
I have also mailed the old players from back then to check out the new site :).
I have lowered the taxations.
The boxes now start at a higher level so it will take longer to get to the 70% taxation box.
PS: My examinations start tomorrow so from then on there won't be a lot of improvements for a week.
Your sectors can now break down if you don't maintain them.
If they break down, they won't produce anymore and you won't be able to do any changes to them like buying/selling units or (de)activating it until you have repaired them.
The repairing costs are 125 euro per unit.
To avoid breakdowns you can maintain your units by hiring an engineer at the staff page.
EDIT: Repair costs are substracted from your daily earnings, so you will have some kind of tax advantage.
I have added another small tool to the market page.
When clicking the image of the goods next to the inputfield, it fills in automaticly how much you have of those goods in your warehouse. This is easy to quickly sell goods.
Maybe not clear for users who don't know about this feature, but they will discover it sooner or later by themselves I guess :).
PS: From now on employee costs will be substracted from your daily profits. This means less taxes!
I have also made some small changes to the storage page.
At the part of "Your stock" you now get to see the value of each sector goods instead of the value / CBM. Also I have added a total stock value at the bottom of the "Your stock" part.
Just a little bit more handy information for you guys :).
Due to the change of the units system some parts of the main page of the "Units" section became irrelevant. I have removed that information and redesigned the page to a (hopefully more) clear interface.
I have written a small calculator at the market page which displays the price and total CBM of the transaction (Taxes not included).

I have improved the AJAX part of the JavaScript Engine. This should speed up some options on the site.
I have programmed a new feature and added it to the market page.
Now you are able to create, delete, buy and sell sets.
This way you can create a set with an amount of goods you regulary buy or sell. You simply create a set, buy or sell it and delete it when you don't use the set anymore.
For database overflow regulation reasons, you are only able to create a maximum of 5 sets.
I hope you will like this feature ;).
PS: What do you think about the ability of naming your sets? (Personally, I think that this is an unnecesairy option).

I have changed the engine of the javascript on the site.

Due to the many changes to the game lately, the structure of the code got a little bit messed up.
I have been busy restyling it a bit. The site is W3C valid again. (According to opera (The browser, not the chick! :p) not even 5% of the sites is W3C Valid :))
I am planning to make the game kinda shareware.
This means that there will be a limited amount of days that you can play for free. You will get like 15 free days or something as a start.
As soon as your days are over, you can buy 90 days (or maybe even a year) extra or something for like €1.00 (not much), or if you do not want to pay, you can vote for free days.
5 votes = 1 free day playing or something.
The payment method can be chosen between paypal or SMS (Mobile Text Message).
This way I can increase popularity and cut costs for the businessgame site.
I don't think of getting rich with Businessgame, but the advertising profits are just not enough yet to pay my site costs back. If every member would pay €1.00 I have a much better result and get out of costs.
Don't worry, this is not planned to be implemented soon, more something I'll do next year. But just already announcing this to see the comments on this.

You can now also use Ordered Lists and insert Youtube Movies.
I have also changed the icons of the storage and of the bank page.
I have added icons next to the title to the game pages.
I have added the option that when you close the tutorial, it remains on the same page. So you really have the idea it is a box that is closed and you can continue using the page ;).

I changed the titles of the game pages a bit. Now there is appaering a small icon next to it.
I had found a bug and fixed it in the taxation scale images in flash.
The last box, which is 70% only calculated till 50, 000 euros, now they calculate your taxes correctly.
I have added the "Finance" tab today.
This tab will calculate your daily profits and the taxes you have to pay.
It is kinda basic at the moment, maybe more features will be added to this page later.
From now on, you will also need to PAY your taxes :). (Hooray!!!)
I hope this improvement will make the game again a bit closer to a real simulation.
I have already done a testrun, this would be in your advantage because now you will have to pay in two parts which will get you in a lower taxation box :p.

This principle is simple, everything below 1000 will be taxed 10%, everything between 1000 and 3000 will be taxed 20%, everything between 3000 and 7000 will have a tax rate of 30% and so on...
For example, if I made 8000 euros today, I will be taxed the following:
1000 x 10% = 100
2000 x 20% = 400
4000 x 30% = 1200
1000 x 40% = 400

Total tax of 2100 for today (Something like 25% of the total).
Btw, maybe make point where tax is 100%? (So there is a maximum daily profit in game that can be achieved).
Like everything 30,000 + is 100% taxes.
I have altered the graphics of the market evolutions. Now they are with dots and numeric information about the evolution.
Hope this is a bit more clear.
Due to the bug that occured yesterday on the new market system, I have resetted all warehouses.
It would have been an impossible (read: boring, frustrating and long) job to check and fix all warehouses on the correct goods amount.
The people who have gained a lot of money by exploiting the bug, I will give them a fine which will balance their total budget to a normal value.
I have designed a new market interface.
I am still thinking about how to make it user friendly and more clear. I am not quite sure if this sytem is better than the previous.

I have rewritten the turn system.
It should do the same as it did before only faster and with the extra options added (also easier to add new options later.)
This new system also records how much profit you made today. (Isn't shown anywhere yet, still thinking where to put it).
Let me know if you find out any bugs. (Miscalculations, no turn processing, etc).
I have trown in an effect that makes a little transistion when going from page to page.
Might be nice, but it could also slow down the gaming. Let me know if you think it should stay of go away :).
I have finished the court page which will fine you when being caught on any illegal actions.
Now you can only have illegal actions by running more sectors than allowed, I am going to add more possibilities to break laws later.
All of them have a small chance of getting caught, the bigger the crime, the bigger the fine. The fine will be calculated on your profits.
I have made a little change to the lay out.
Now in the rankings, inbox, outbox and forums you will see a much clearer background transistion as before.
I have also used the colo(u)r blue to make the site a little less dull :p.
I have removed the headhunter from the game.
He didn't seem to be a good idea after all.
I have added the headhunter.
He will lower your wages of the employees with 20%
I have also did a little update:
- Accountant has another image
- Production manager has another image
- You can now employ 4 employees instead of 3
I am thinking of adding some kind of environment.
There will be set an amount of "pollution" for each sector unit.
There will also be a wood (based on amount of players) which will clean the pollution.
If pollution level is too high, the governemnt will take consequences. This might be planting new threes and such, or the temporarly need to install filters or something.

After the 3 new staff members I have added yesterday, I am going to add a new staff member today.

The lobbyist will fix a deal with the government which will give you a license to own maximum 4 sectors instead of 3 sectors. So you can get legal activities with even 4 sectors active!
EDIT: He has been added, hope you like him as much as the rest of the board!
I also did some "invisible" fixes :). ex: Birthdays should be calculated correctly now.
I have changed the name of coach into production manager. Sounds better.
The next thing I am planning to do is adding a few extra staff members today.
To be added today:
- Distribution manager: Lowers tax price on selling and buying goods
- Financial director: Lowers the fix costs per unit
- Human resources: Lowers the variable costs per unit
I also changed the price of the logistic manager to ?8 per warehouse per day.
From now on, you are able to activate more than 3 sectors, but you are not allowed too!
When activating more than 3 sectors, you have a certain risk, your risk depends on the amount of illegal sectors (activated sectors-3).
When you get caugt, you will be fined. The fine equals the profit of 15 turns of all your activated profitable sectors. (Because else when you would be losing money, getting fined would be a gift.)
Bugfixes today:
- Profile pages didn't work if the user didn't exist;
- Bank didn't show the correct interest rate when owning a accountant;

I have made a little change to the advisor system.
Now the system reminds if the advisor box was open or closed. So it will stay open on all pages if you leave it open until you close it somewhere.
A small change, but a very handy feature :).
I also fixed a few bugs :)
I have changed the interface of the settings page. This looks much easier and more pretty.
I'm thinking of making a WAP interface for businessgame.be so it is accessible with other devices than a computer.
This would be something like

The update has been done. I'm ready one hour faster than planned :p.
Turns are being calculated again, but now with new input and output values.
I hope this will make the game more fair.
The input/output values of every production unit will be undergoing changes today. This will happen between 12h and 14h business time (3 hours away from this post). During that time, there will be no production turns.
Please understand that we change these values in order to get a more balanced economy. For example, it was impossible to loose money on most of the products, even on the very worst scenario.
Consider this change as a fresh challenge in the game. It breaks the routine a little ;)

Please be advised that important changes will happen in the game during the following days.
In a first step, the market prices will slowly adapt to new minima and maxima.
When all prices are within their limits, the input and output values of every production unit will change as well. There is no specific time when this will happen, not yet. These changes will affect profits and losses, as well as storage needs.
Please also remember that there will be a reset, the current date for that is september the 1st. We implement these changes before the reset, to see where we have improved and where we have not. This allows for some more tweaking before the reset.

The random market situations are now ready.
The system is done and is working as you have noticed.
In time I'll add more different stories.
I'm rewriting the market system. Don't worry if the indicators are incorrect.
I have changed the market taxes for transactions from 1% to 5%.
I'm busy with writing some news stories which will be put in the newspapers at random moments. This are mostly natural events which are not controlled by humans.
These events will affect the market prices. In a further version, they might even affect your company!
Here is an example of what could possibly happen:
[i]There was a big storm last night and many of the roads got flooded which makes it impossible for the suppliers to deliver their goods to the market.
The government is trying to do all they can to make the suppliers deliver their goods. A team has been sent for help, but they were not in
time to get the goods on the market for today.
As a result, the prices of all the goods have risen.[/i]
I have added some images to the tutorial, to make it a bit more attractive :).
I have also smoothen up the tutorial version for people who are not logged in. (Also with images).
I have updated the tutorial for the registered members. When you click on the tutorial button while logged in, you will get a small window on top of your screen that will help you navigate the site.
The tutorial for new members will be updated soon.

Hi all,
I've been a moderator for quiete a while now, but only the first 2 weeks of beeing a moderator, I actually had the time to do something.
Then i had some troubles with the neaghbours (or something simmilar) and my child was taken in at the hospital. Well, this game could get stolen from me.
After a month, i finally had time for this game again, but...
I applyed for a job at Asus, to work there at the German support centre.
I'm Dutch, but my German language (Grown up with 2 languages, English is not one of them as you notice :P) and my Computer knowledge was enough to accept me.
Since then i work 40 hours a week, have 4 hours a day to spend on my wife an child, and no time for the game.
In the weekend i spend my time translating websites from Dutch/English to German, and i get paid quiete well, so i don't have any time left to spend as an moderator.
That's why i'm resigning.
I will still keep my account, and check in once in a while. I hope one of you has the spare time and is relliable, and would apply as an moderator.
I wish you all fun playing the game, if you have questions, you can always contact me in the future, reply could take a week or 2, so it's no use, but the offer is standing.

I have added taxes to the market.
From now on there will be charged 1% taxes on each trade you make.
I hope this step will be another step to reality :).
I have slightly changed the bank page.
It now represents a contract you have to fill in. The actual system didn't change, but I think it is just cooler this way :).
Let me know what you think, this way I can think about getting the game more visualised. (Maybe you just like the text-system, or do you want more images?)

I have updated the staff system.
Instead of rehiring them each day, you will keep them untill you fire them.
To prevent cheating, the employee will only be fired at the end of the day.
I hope this little change will slightly improve the game ;).
I have found out the bug that caused the empty mails to be sent.
I have fixed this error, let me know if it still happens.
I hope I didn't anger to many of you people :s.
For some mysterious reason, my server sends blank mails to all users.
That should be fixed now, if the message is empty no mail will be sent.
I hope that will do the trick, otherwise I'll have to check all me codes to know how this happens.

PS: Due to a stupid mistake the turns were calculated each quarter the first day, this is back to normal (half hour turns).
The site has been transferred!
All changes that has been made before the transfer and after the back up are lost!
So if you created your account this week, you might have to register again!
I am transferring this server from a windows server to a linux server. It might take a while and the site might be offline.
Don't worry, it is all to give you a better service and gameplay.

After my examinations I will program the panel "Team" or "Staff" or something likewise.
This option will extend the possibilities of businessgame in a great way. You will be able to improve your production, get some great hints or get better prices for your goods.
Here are some options I already had in mind:
You can hire a:
- Spy: When hired a spy you will be able to see in the users profile what things he owns and has been activated.
- Advisor: You already got kind of an example in game, this guy will give you advise
- Analyst: Will tell you what the next price changes are expected to be
- Bookkeeper: He will calculate the profits for all sectors (like the spreadsheet some of the members already made themselves :p)
- Lawyer: Can fix lower intrest rate at bank :)
- Stock manager: Lowers warehouse cost per turn with 25%
- Production manager: Increases production of all units with 5%
- Market manager: Can fix better market prices for you (not sure yet about this option, might give some troubles)
To keep it fair, I will put a limit on this too (like maximum 3 sectors active) you might maximum activate 2 of these guys a day or something. Otherwise the top players can simply activate them all and gain huge profit, than there is nothing strategic about it.
What do you think? And do you have some ideas yourselves?

The updaters should be fixed now, I am working on the MySQL errors right now. (However they are still a mystery.)
I start to get them too, never happened before. When did this error starts to come up for you guys? This might help me finding out what the cause might be.
There seems to be some problems with the site. Like errors and updates don't work.
I think they are updating the system or something.

I changed the PHP version from version 4.4.7 to 5.2.5. I am not sure what the consequences will be. There might be some errors and bugs.

I have made some changes to the [[BB Code]]. Not the syntax but the output it generates. This is especially for the images since they were to big sometimes. Images will be resized now.

The bank system is now ready. To make it a bit challenging I have set intrest to 25%. There is also a daily intrest to push you to pay it back as fast as possible.
